Global Yacht Builders Co. Ltd. was founded on a simple premise—to build great yachts. This will be more than evident in our new line of high-performance express cruisers, the first of which is the GLOBALarrow 68. But we are also poised to build custom one-off yachts in the near future.
One of the keys to making this intention a reality is the men and women who form the executive and management team of Global Yacht Builders. Each of the several investors who have established Global Yacht Builders started their business careers in the marine industry. Some remain active and successful in it today, while others have branched out into new endeavors. Among this group are well-known managers of companies traded on the Taipei Stock Exchange, restaurateurs, and managing directors of yacht companies.
Charles Chang, Chairman, is a Naval Architect and Marine Engineer with a degree from National Cheng Kung University. Charles was a production engineer for Tayana Yacht Co and later the Production Manager for Spindrift Yachts. In 1985, he founded Hi-Star Marine Co and, over the next ten years, built more than 500 different yachts from 44 to 70 ft. Charles was an early pioneer in establishing boat-building in China and has established two factories in Suzhou where he continues to build and develop new Hi-Star yachts with his new company; Activa Marine Co. Ltd.
Bruce Livingston, Director and General Manager, was the Plant Director of Grand Banks, Malaysia, General Manager of Little Harbor Custom Yachts, and a custom builder in the United States. With degrees from Johns Hopkins University and King’s College, University of London, Bruce has the essential combination of hands-on skills, proven talent and extensive management experience. Over the past 30 years, he has had the good fortune to build a wide range of production, semi-custom and custom yachts in Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia and the United States.
Karl Lin, Director, is one of the first graduates in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from National Cheng Kung University. Karl was a production engineer and engineering manager for Tayana Yacht Co. In 1989, he established Tania Yacht Co. where he is a director and General Manager. He has built more than 450 different powerboats from 37 to 75 ft. Skilled in design and boat yard management, Karl has been instrumental in establishing the foundations for Global.
Directors alone cannot build good companies. The key managers for Global Yacht Builders also come with extensive experience in boat building and management.
David Chang, Engineering Manager, has been engineering and building yachts, fishing boats and commercial boats since 1985. He has a Master’s degree in Ship Building and Mechanical Engineering from National Cheng Kung University. Among the many projects that David has designed and worked on are a custom 80 ft sailboat, a variety of motor yachts as well as several 30 meter high-speed ferry boats. Skilled and experienced, he has an excellent eye for detail and an intimate knowledge of mechanical system’s design and installation.
George Lin, Production Manager, received his degree from Taiwan Provincial Maritime College and, for more than twenty years, has built a variety of sailboats. George was the production manager at Little Harbor Marine Enterprises where he directed the construction and managed the workers and contractors. The boats he has built and supervised range from 42 to 75 ft, culminating in the construction of “Palawan” a custom Ted Hood designed 75 ft sloop. George is particularly good at translating ideas and designs into reality on the shop floor. Although he left the industry for a few years, he returned enthusiastically when Global Yacht Builders presented the opportunity to build great yachts.
Building and design skills are not all that is needed to run and operate a successful boat building company. Sandy Lin, Financial and Administration Manager, brings the critical financial and administrative skills to Global, based on her years of experience with a variety of boat building and electronics companies. Sandy was the Accounting and Purchasing Manager for Little Harbor Marine Enterprises and conducted the supply chain management for the company for over 9 years.
Other key staff also brings to Global Yacht Builders extensive talent in management, boatbuilding, engineering and material procurement. Among this group, the former key craftsmen and supervisors from Little Harbor Custom Yachts form the core of the tradesmen who will build Global’s own boats and our custom projects.
